The Archdiocese of San Francisco is committed to providing impactful learning, as well as collaborative and capacity-building opportunities for all.
Visible Learning is a research-based approach to teaching and learning that focuses on making student learning visible to both teachers and students. It is based on the work of John Hattie, who has conducted over 800 meta-analyses of educational research.

All of ADSF Educators use the principles of Visible Learning. All ADSF Educators implement the use of Learning Intentions and Success Criteria in their classrooms. Transparency for Learning through the 3 Question Walkthrough will be utilized by principals throughout the Archdiocese.

History of Visible Learning in ADSF
Professional Learning, beginning in 2020 and continuing to the present, has provided an understanding of Teacher Clarity, along with a deeper understanding of learning intentions and success criteria. Teacher Clarity is an evidence-based teaching strategy with an effect size that nearly doubles the rate of student learning when implemented with fidelity.
2020 - 2021, all of ADSF Educators participated in Visible Learning, a foundation course in John Hattie's work of research in the educational field, highlighting highly effective instructional methodology.
2021 - 2022, all of ADSF Educators participated in Teacher Clarity, receiving an in-depth step-by-step process on Learning Intentions and Success Criteria.
2022 - 2023, all of ADSF Educators participated in Visible Learning - Student as Visible Learner, receiving an in-depth study of student as learner and student as assessment capable. We also continued the focus on learning intentions and success criteria.
2023-2024, all of ADSF Educators participated in Visible Assessment, receiving an in-depth understanding of assessment tied together with success criteria.
2025 and beyond - All ADSF Educators engage in ongoing practice and implementation of Visible Learning
